Mediast is a web hosting, design and development company based in Chilliwack, BC. We are actively searching for an honest and trustworthy freelance Web Developer. In addition to living close enough to meet for coffee from time-to-time (we prefer to work with "locals"), the ideal applicant must have at least 3 years PHP & MySQL programming experience, and be ready to jump right into the code of existing projects.

We are a small team of passionate web experts, working on everything from basic websites, to complex business applications. This position is constantly evolving and you would be expected to keep up-to-date with advancements in web standards and technologies.


Summary of Qualifications

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to write technical documentation and bug reports, communicate complex ideas.
- Experience planning the development of new websites based on requested specs or reviewing improvement options to existing sites, suggesting features and optimizations, and quoting on project times.
- Advanced to Expert understanding of (X)HTML, XML, CSS, JS, PHP, and MySQL w/ experience in HTML5 and CSS3
- Familiarity with jQuery and the HTML DOM is a huge asset. AJAX is often used to enhance dynamic websites.
- Ability to program web-forms and functionality from start to finish.
- Understanding of Regular Expressions is necessary for example in use with "friendly URLs"
- Ability to program custom content management systems that deal with text, images, videos, and other media types
- Effectively troubleshooting logic, syntax, and display issues and debug both your own code and that of others
- Familiarity with major internet browsers including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Opera
- Experience with Wordpress Installation and customization and the ability to create themes and tweak blog/theme functionality.
- Experience working with and building e-commerce websites, Paypal, and integration of payment gateways (IE - PSiGate, Moneris)
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work well alone or as part of a team
- Ability to work from home, without supervision.


Optional Qualifications

- Experience with Mobile App/Site Development
- Basic Foundation & Understanding of Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine marketing techniques
- Basic understanding of Google Search, Webmaster Tools, Analytics, and other Google services
- Familiarity with Social Networking websites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- Experience working with Facebook Connect and integrating it into client websites

This is a freelance position, immediately involving up to 20 hours of work each week.
